Differential Diagnosis

• Melanoma (nodular) • Dermatofibroma • Tattoo reaction • Vascular malformation • Pigmented basal cell carcinoma

Key Learnings

• Benign melanocytic proliferation in mid-deep dermis — Tyndall effect gives blue color • Two types: common blue nevus (small) and cellular blue nevus (larger, buttock/sacrum) • Dermoscopy: homogeneous steel-blue structureless pattern • Cellular type has higher risk of malignant transformation
